BRONZE

Al Fell and Elaine live in Pennsylvania, USA. He was 60 when he was diagnosed on March 20, 2007. His initial PSA was 2.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7 (3+4) and he was staged T2. His choice of treatment was Surgery (RP). Here is his story:

I will be having Open Radical Prostatectomy surgery on June 21, 2007. I have spent the last 2+ months researching treatments and options.

I took a trip to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Illinois for a second opinion.

I ruled out HDR (High Dosage Radiation) due to position of tumor and am comfortable with the surgery decision.

Will let you know how things turn out post-op.

UPDATED

April 2008

It has been over nine months since surgery.

I had very little pain, only discomfort was the catheter for nineteen days.

I am experiencing no incontinence problems. I used 1 to 2 pads a day initially, none after 3 months.

Erections are getting stronger, Viagra helps a lot.

I am extremely happy that I went with the Open surgery, but that was my decision, not necessarily the right choice for someone else.
