Barry
Andrews
and Allison
live in Bristol,
England. He was
44
when he was diagnosed on 06 February 2007. His initial PSA was 4.2 ng/ml, his
Gleason Score was 3+3=6 and, although he does not state it, would have been staged
T1c. His choice of treatment was Radical Prostatectomy. Here is his story:
Following
pain in my urine one day which occurred again the following day, I decided to
have it checked by my GP. She assumed it would be a urine infection, so suggested
some blood & urine tests. Unknown to me, she did a PSA test.
Two
weeks later she confirmed all was well except my PSA was 4.2 ng/ml which was considered
high for my age. Therefore she referred me to a consultant. He did a rectal examination
confirmed the prostate was smooth, soft but slightly enlarged. He suggested we
leave it for 4 weeks and do another PSA test (again thinking I was too young).
I
had blood test results back Jan 07 and the PSA rose to 4.5 ng/ml. Therefore they
progressed with a biopsy. On 6 February 07 I was told all 8 core samples came
back positive!
Therefore
after much thought & research I decided to have radical prostatectomy which was
done 5 April 07. I was in hospital for 5 days, and have been at home now for a
week. So far so good. Have my catheter removed tomorrow and the histology report
as well. Lets hope all is well and they got it all with no further treatment required.
Will
let you know.
