YANA - YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE

BRONZE

CB Bunting III and Kaye live in North Carolina, USA. He was 55 when he was diagnosed on April 15, 2009. His initial PSA was 31.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9 and it seems likely that he was staged T1a or T1c. He is undecided as to his choice of treatment. Here is his story.

I have prostate cancer in my family so I started getting my PSA checked annually. It started at 2.3. Months later it was 3.6 and my doctor said we needed to do a biopsy, due to the rising PSA and my age. The biopsy came back negative.

I went another year and my PSA was 16.8. We did another biopsy that came back negative. I went on antibiotics but my PSA continued to rise. We scheduled a TURP (Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate) to get a biopsy. By now my PSA was at 31. The TURP came back positive with a Gleason score of 9.

This has scared me to the core. I have scheduled a RP for the end of May. In the meantime, I am eating walnuts, drinking orange juice and eating flaxseed oil and cottage cheese from the Budwig diet along with my regular food. I am also a diabetic and wear an insulin pump.

I appreciate any ideas, I seem to be burnt out reading so much. My stress level is at a maximum right now due to problems in a family business. I know this doesn't help.

Thanks for listening.

Later: Just a note from CB saying he had selected surgery - no doubt he'll update in due course.

UPDATED

June 2009

I had my surgery on May 27th, 2009.

All went well according to the doctor. He stated that the lymph nodes felt good. The pathology has confirmed this. I am working two weeks post surgery, but somewhat tired and sore. Most of the soreness is now in my testicles and around my rear end. I have a few more weeks before I go back for a PSA test. I can only pray.

Catheter removal hurt but not as bad as the catheter removal after my TURP which found the cancer. I am staying dry but do have a little leakage, especially later in the day.

I do nor know on ED yet, still a little early, but it is on my mind.

Thanks for any prayers that anyone sent my way. Good luck to all.

I will post once I find out more.

UPDATED

July 2009

I went to my doctor today July 16, 2009 for my 6 week post op appointment. My PSA was less than 0.05 which is considered undectable.

My doctor recommends radiation because of the aggressiveness of the cancer. I talked him into waiting three more months to give my body more healing time and to give me more time to learn about the radiation.

My wife and I are happy with the results and look forward to helping others.
