YANA - YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE

BRONZE

Dale Swanson lives in California, USA. He was 50 when he was diagnosed in February, 2009. His initial PSA was 4.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 3+3=6 and he was staged T1c. He is undecided as to his choice of treatment. Here is his story.

Diagnosed after a biopsy with 15% positive on the right side with 12 samples being taken.

Talked to my urologists who I've read recommend surgery; three different people and all agreed surgery "get it out".

Also spoke recently to a Radiologist (considering brachytherapy) who seemed very positive (yet open minded on my decision) that Radiation therapy would work well with minor side effects.

My biggest concern is not getting rid of the cancer, but the choice of treatment based on age, 16yr old son, active lifestyle etc. I was leaning towards surgery now I'm not sure after talking to the radiation doctor.

No family history of this at all, I'm the lucky first!!

Any input from anyone in similar places in your lives is greatly appreciated - yes, confused on what direction to move towards

I have been seeing multiple doctors for opinions on radiation and various surgery types. I've decided on surgery; now its narrowing down the doctor. I have another PSA test to check for velocity (advancement) in July, a doctor suggested this and it made sense.

My mother just passed away and had had been sick for some months putting my issues on hold to help and be with her. Now its time to take care of my issues. .
