Dave K and Mickey live in South Carolina, USA. He was 49 when he was diagnosed on April 15, 2009. His initial PSA was 6.1 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7 and although he does not give his staging it seems likely he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment was radical prostatectomy . Here is his story.

Greetings, I have just recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

I will have my surgery on June 1st 2009. Guess I'll have to get back to you with the results. The tests have indicated that the cancer has not left the prostate, so my wife and I have decided to have the nerve sparing prostatectomy.

Wow what a punch in the stomach.

Thanks for being here.

UPDATED

June 2009

Well its been one week after surgery. Had my staples out yesterday.

Everything is coming along fine. The pathology report after surgery was good, the cancer had not gone outside the prostate and nothing would indicate that the cancer will show up again, ever. Its been a tough week, the incision is bigger than I had expected however it appears to be healing well.

My wife, Mickey has been a true blessing, waiting on me day after day, keeping me from going stir crazy. I've had neighbours bring meals to the house and also a big bag of fresh string beans and squash right from the garden.

I just can't believe the amount of support and acts of kindness that has come my way.
