YANA - YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE

BRONZE

Don L and Doris live in Queensland, Australia. He was 67 when he was diagnosed in October, 2008. His initial PSA was 3.6 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 3+4 = 7 and he was staged T1c. He and his wife are undecided as to his choice of treatment. Here is his story.

This is Don's wife writing. I need information for my husband. The doctor suggested key hole operation but, we are not sure what is best to do.

We trust that The Lord is healing the cancer. At the same time I am giving my husband plenty of natural medicines such as Selenium with vitamin E, achiote with cat's claw, (those are herbs from Peru) to treat prostate problems, flaxseed with pomegranate juice. I prepare his meals with plenty of green vegetables including broccoli and plenty of tomatoes. He is feeling well but a bit anxious as he also suffers from depression.

I had gone through cancer myself in the past but, my husband has always been my strength after God. We don't like the thought of the after operation effects and would like to try some natural treatment. My naturopath is going to prepare a herb tonic I found in the internet, which seems very good of well known Chinese herbs. Of course, we are not discounting the operation but, would like to have more information from other men who have had it.

May God Bless and heal you all. Faith and Prayer makes miracles happen. (I should know, there have been many miracles in our lives), please believe me that to ask for The Lord's help is the best medicine. I look forward reading your stories and experiences which really help to the ones like us, facing the so new and frightening situation.

Doris for Don

UPDATED

January 2009

This is Doris, Don's wife writing (Don doesn't type).

Don will be having the Robotic Surgery on the 27th February in Sydney with Professor Stricker at the St Vincent Private Hospital. After seeing doctors in Queensland (2 Urologists and 1 Radiologists Oncologist), we found that there were conflicting opinions so, decided to check in Sydney (as we come from there). In Queensland the first Urologist said that Don needed operation and that it was T2, the Radiologist said T3 and couldn’t be operated just radiation (external). The Urologist in Sydney says that Don is an excellent candidate for Robotic Surgery and that he disagrees with the Urologist opinion in Qld. and that It is T2.

Don is eating plenty of vegetables (raw) just cooked tomatoes and plenty of broccoli and lots of fruit. No fat, sugar (just raw honey), salt (for cooking just little sea salt) or alcohol (so far just a couple of glasses of red wine in three months). I give him Selenium 3 drops daily with Vit E, Achiote (Annato) with Cat’s claw 3 capsules daily, one before meals, Pau d’ Arco 6 capsules daily (with his meals), Vit C, Zinc, Saw Palmetto 2 capsules in the morning and 2 at night (it has stopped him getting up to the toilet during the night). I also give him in his fruit salad Aloe Vera (natural, straight from the plant) once a day.

At the beginning, say October till November, Don’s urine had a very strong smell of ammonia. I searched the internet for an answer and found sodium bicarbonate which is alkaline and balances the acidity of the body which is the cause of many illnesses including cancer. I know of this product since I was a child while I lived overseas, people used to take it for stomach complaints among other uses. I checked with the local Pharmacist who is very knowledgeable, he said that it is a very good product and that it is sold in capsules and that Don could have up to 3 capsules daily. I gave him only 2 capsules daily before meals for about a month and then stopped when the ammonia smell disappeared, which meant that his system was balanced alkaline and acidity.

Don continues taking Lexapro for his depression and Karva por his high blood pressure,( which is kept low), has stopped taking statins like Lipitor and in the last blood test his cholesterol without any medicine was 5, his PSA has gone down to 2.4. We are just checking that his white blood cells went down a bit but, the doctors says that maybe he could have had a virus at the time of test. Don feels well physically, plays tennis 2/3 times a week, walks everyday and paints and draws for hours every day (he is an artist). He also reads a lot and gets together with male friends for Bible studies.

At the moment Don and I are getting quite stressed out as the time for the operation approaches, as besides de operation itself there are so many other issues to face such as how are we going to leave our son alone in the house (he has disabilities), accommodation in Sydney etc. There are a lot of financial issues and the operation itself is very expensive but, what price you put to a life. We intent to sell our house to pay later on. We are grateful to Our Lord for giving Don the chance of having an operation and having something to sell to pay for it. My family from overseas have been very supportive and knowing that we are in the Palm of God’s Hand give us the strength to keep going, we don’t have family here.

YANA has been a godsend as we have learned so much from other men experiences, we learned about Professor Stricker through YANA (Paul Diver). Thank you so much for the help your Forum provides to men and their wives who are going through this terrible experience in life. Reading what people write make us feel that we are not alone that there many friends around helping us to walk this journey. I pray for every man going through their own journey and for their families, I know that God never leaves us if we knock at His Door and ask for His Help, Care and Love.

We will keep up up-to-date as much as possible when the operation happens, etc. Please to all men in the Forum who trust in The Lord, pray for Don as prayers are the most powerful medicine there is. May God Bless you all and your families
