Delavigne and Shayna Stillman live in Virginia, USA. He was 68 when he was diagnosed
in December 2009. His initial PSA was 3.85 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and
he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment was Brachytherapy. Here is his story.
I am a slender tall fit 68 year old. An avid cyclist and athlete for over
40 years. My father died of prostate cancer in 1966 before PSA tests existed.
I have been annually tested my entire adult life.
Since 2003 my PSA score
drifted up from 2.3 to 3.85. We ruled out infection of the prostate and then proceeded
to the biopsy in Dec 2009 . Out of 12 samples taken in my biopsy, one sample showed
signs of cancer cells and my urologist recommended Brachytherapy or watchful waiting.
I decided Brachytherapy was for me.
In Feb 2010 I had an MRI which showed
my prostate to be of even size with a solid margin that indicated the cancer has
not spread outside the prostate. My next test is a sonogram/volume study to determine
how many radiological seeds will be required for my Brachytherapy.
I am
expecting the treatment to take place in mid to late March.
