BRONZE

Eddie Scott lives in Florida USA. He was 51 when he was diagnosed in October, 2007. His initial PSA was 3.3 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and he was staged T2a. His choice of treatment was Watchful Waiting. Here is his story.

I went for my annual check-up and my GP felt something. He was unsure if it was a lump or an enlarged prostate so he sent me to an Urologist. The urologist said it would be best if I took a biopsy. The results came back with a Gleason score of 6. I was told I have three choices, watchful waiting, surgery or seed implantation (Brachytherapy)

I have some concerns about each option. There is some nerve involvement and if I elect surgery my concern would be that the "nerve" sparing procedure would not be an option, once they go in. As for the Brachytherapy I am concerned about the side effects and the long-term success rate.

I have been doing quit a bit of research of the three options and have found good and bad with each of the options. I have elected watchful waiting along with changing my diet to fish and chicken, fruits, vegetables, grains, pasta, beans etc. During my research I have found some interesting information about supplements like Vitamin E, C, D, Saw palmetto and pomegranates so I have added them to my daily intake as well.

For now I continue to do research and try to find people to talk to in the same situation. I am sure at some point I will need to pursue some form of treatment.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Later:

4 months ago I was diagnosed with Pca, Gleason of 6, PSA of 3.3 and a lump that could be felt. Since then I have been on a strict diet and taking many supplements that I have researched on the web. I got my results from the PSA this week it was 3.2, but the good part was my Doctor said the prostate felt normal. Any ideas?

UPDATED

May 2008

Went for my check up last week. My PSA was down from 3.2 to 2.3 and he could no longer feel any abnormalities. I am not sure why neither was he. I have been on a very strict diet and taking several supplements. I am not sure this is why but for now I am sticking with it. At this point I am will be waiting for my next biopsy and go from there.

Has anyone else had this happen or know anyone this happened to? Or any other ideas.
