BRONZE

Harvey Dickson and Patsey live in Hobart, Indiana, USA. He was 63 when he was diagnosed in January, 2008. His initial PSA was 91.6 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9 and he was staged T4. His choice of treatment was ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy). Here is his story.

My husband was diagnosed 1/2008. His PSA was 91.6.

After being on Casodex and injections it has come down to 8.96 in one month. The cancer is suspected in the lower spine. They will do another MRI scan and bone scan next month to see if the spot on his spine has shrunk.

The doctors have told us he can't have radiation. And, they can't do a biopsy on his spine, because its not worth the risk of causing more problems. He is very depressed and sad. They also wanted him to join a clinical trial.

Has anyone done any, and I would like to hear your comments on trials.

Harvey has been on Casodex since February 2008. He receives Zoladex injection every 3 months since the end of Feb.08. His PSA has been 0.05 since May 2009! The doctor was surprised it went that low.

Harvey takes Crestor, Vitamin C. Vitamin D, Eflexor 35mg (for severe hot flashes), pomagranate capsule, and 81mg aspirin, also, 3-4 Vicodin everyday. Harv also suffers from chronic fatigue, memory loss and confusion. He has a lot of pain in his lower back & legs..the reason for Vicodin.

The doctor finally did a bone density test, will be starting Zometa soon. We are bike riding now to build up his muscle mass..and are really enjoying it!! Neither of us has ridden a bike in over 30 yrs.

We are changing doctors this Fall, looking for one that is more informative. We have great insurance, but had to demand for a bone density test, he finally did one after his intern questioned him why he hadn't had one! Sorry about venting.

Harvey's e-mail address is: patseyharvey@hotmail.com
