John
Kuzyck and Janet live in Pennsylvania, USA. He was 58 when he was diagnosed on
April 30, 2008. His initial PSA was 6.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and although
he dose not state his staging it seems likely he was staged T1c. His choice of
treatment was Surgery. Here is his story.
I was diagnosed with prostrate
cancer on April 30,2008. My Gleason Score was 6 and the cancer was on both sides
of the prostrate.
After talking to my doctor I elected to have the prostrate
removed. My son was getting married on June 14th and I wanted to be able to participate
before and during the wedding so I elected to have surgery on June 18th.
The
surgery went well and the cancer was contained within the prostrate and I was
up and home within four days. That's when my nightmare started. I had the catheter
in for about nine days and when it was removed I was unable to void on my own.
The catheter went back in for a couple more days and then taken out again. I still
could not pee on my own. It is now almost four months later and I have been in
and out of the ER more times than I can count. I had laser surgery in August to
remove scar tissue and that lasted for about seven days and then once again I
started to drip, drip, drip and had severe pain because I could not void again.
I
started to self catheter myself to try and keep that opening open and that worked
for about seven more days and then I couldn't do that any longer and finally this
week had another laser surgery done to remove scar tissue again.
It's only
been two days since my last laser surgery and I am peeing on my own now, but am
very nervous until I get that first seven days behind me again.
I am curious
if anyone else has ever had this problem. I was prepared for the peeing myself
and not having control but I was thrown with this opposite experience and I know
my doctor is getting perplexed as well.
I've gone to two other doctors
but they give me the impression that my doctor is taking the necessary steps.
I almost feel like they don't want to clean up someone else's problem.
Has
anyone else out there ever experienced this problem? If so how did you correct
it?
Also is anyone taking Flomax? I heard it would help me empty my bladder
fully.
Thank you,
John Kuzyck
