LesTenney was 59 when he was diagnosed in May 2006. His initial PSA was 7.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9 and he was staged T2c. He chose External Beam Radiation Treatment followed by ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy. Here is his story:

In May of 2006 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer My PSA number was 7.5 and my Gleason score was 9. My staging number was T2c.

The doctor advised surgery but since there was a chance the cancer had already spread outside the prostate I decided on external beam radiation therapy. I had 40 treatments that began in August 2006 and ended in September2006.

Within the first week of December 2006 my PSA had fallen to .06 ng/ml and as of March 13 2007 the psa is still .06 ng/ml.

I am to continue the hormone treatment for another 15 months There is a 40% chance that the cancer will develop a resistence to the hormone treatment and grow. It is probable that the radiation treatment did not get all of it.

I would strongly recommend anybody with prostate cancer to get second opinions and read about this disease as much as possible before making any decisions about treatment.

UPDATED

November 2007

I have now been on Zoladex treatments for 13 months after the end of the radiation treatments and my PSA number is steady at <0.1

I am scheduled to go off this treament and go into a period of watch and wait to find out if the cancer will grow back.
