BRONZE

Mark Parfitt and Judy live in New York, USA . He was 52 when he was diagnosed in April, 2008. His initial PSA was 6.3 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment was Radical Prostatectomy. Here is his story.

Hello to all PCa Patients, I was initially shocked by the diagnosis because there is no history of any cancer in my family.

It took three weeks, discussions with several doctors, a support group and other individuals who have gone through this process. Since my insurance company covers Memorial Sloan-Kettering I opted for the radical prostatectomy. Surgery was performed September 16, 2008.

My PSA six weeks later was 0 and all biopsies from the extra pieces taken out were negative. All the people I work with and my family were extremely supportive. This kept me from becoming too anxious.

Thank-you,

Mark

Six months after surgery my PSA score is >.006 virtually zero.

The incontinence has subsided considerably as long as I keep up with the Kegel exercises. Leading an active physical lifestyle sometimes results in some leakage when lifting, coughing or sneezing. As long as I remain aware of my fluid intake and relieve myself before lifting something heavy I am fine.

Sticking with the Viagra regimen is successful with steady improvement over time.

Exercising, walking and maintaining a good diet eating a lot of fresh vegetables has enabled me to maintain a high energy level.
