YANA - YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE

BRONZE

Michael Scott and Shirley live in West Yorkshire, England. He was 43 when he was diagnosed in October 2005. His initial PSA was 2.7 ng/ml His Gleason Score was 7 and although his clinical staging is not stated it appears that it would have been T1c . His choice of treatment was Surgery. Here is his story:

My name is Mick and I live in the UK.

It is a full 12 months now since I had my radical prostectomy. Wish I had been given the option of a perennial. I also had the lymph nodes removed.

My gleason score was 7 and the cancer diagnosed as aggressive.

I have just had my 45th birthday so it was quite a shock to find I had the big C just before my 44th birthday - I was 43 when diagnosed.

For the record I have never smoked, I eat healthily and hardly drink any alcohol. I play five a side football once a week; have done for the last 8 years on and off and I am of medium build, not fat.

It just goes to show if its going to happen it will happen no matter what.

Just had my fourth blood test and results are less than 0.1 ng/ml.

I had two tumors, one on each side of my prostate, the pathology report said they were 0.5mm from breaking out, this was only realised two weeks after the operation.Three weeks after surgery I went to see my consultant for the lab report on my prostate and lymph nodes. The lab report said I was Gleason 7 stage 2, with lymph nodes clear.

Its been tough, still is. The whole thing places one hell of a strain on your marriage.
