Paul
Birdsong and Doris live in Virginia USA. He was 48 when he was diagnosed on September
28, 2009. His initial PSA was 4.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 3+3=6 and he was
staged T1c. He is undecided as to his choice of treatment. Here is his story.
As
most of a you are aware the diagnosis is alarming. Having been diagnosed yesterday
I am still reeling from the news. I have gotten a great deal of support from my
wife and we will hit it head on and do what we have to do!
I live in Richmond
Virginia, Dr. Charles Seabury; Virginia Urology in Richmond has sent my tissues
to John Hopkins in DC for confirmation. Apparently the two groups reciprocate
on every case.
PSA in May indicated a problem, so thirty days on antibiotics
to relieve possible infection did nothing on a second PSA and they found blood
in my urine. So off we go to a CT scan and biopsy on my bladder and prostate.
CT scan and bladder at this point are fine.
I am young and having to make
a decision about what type of surgery and when is weighing heavy on my heart!
I am leaning toward robotics but would like others to share their experiences.
All for now!
Later:
Well it has been a few weeks since the initial shock and awe of the being diagnosed.
I want to thank all those that responded to my initial story. The words of encouragement
meant a lot to me and have helped in so many ways.
I
have decided to have Da Vinci robotic surgery after my hormone therapy. I am scheduled
for surgery mid December and hope I will be back to work by the first of the year!
I
will keep you posted! Thanks
again to all of you.
