Paul Hed and Savyon live in California, USA . He was 68 when he was diagnosed
in 1998. His initial PSA was 5.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 2+3=5 and he was
staged T1c . His choice of treatment was Active Watchful Waiting. Here is his
story.
After I was diagnosed with PCa, my Kaiser urologist described
the various options, including participating in Dr. Dean Ornish's Watchful Waiting
Study, which was held for a year at his Preventive Medicine Research Institute
at Sausalito, CA. That included a drastic change in Life style: Vegan diet, Yoga
meditation, exercise and weekly social meetings.
PSA continued to rise
gradually, and I decided to try various supplements. Around 2004, I learned from
friends about the success and fiasco of PC-Spes. Despite that, I decided, sometimes
in 2004, to try Prostasol, which was recommended (again, by some of my friends).
I noticed in a very short time that my PSA was reduced - to 0.2. I believe. But
since I don't trust the PSA tests too much, I had a Color Doppler Ultrasound test
done by Dr. Bahn, at the American Prostate Institute in Ventura, Ca. That was
a repeat test, which showed a reduction of both prostate and tumor size of about
30%. That was great.
The first "price," which I paid was the loss of libido,
which I regard as reduction in quality of life. The other "bonus" was the increase
of my breasts and some pain in my nipples. I realized that it was an estrogenic
effect of the Prostasol. My big mistake was that I didn't ask for medical advice
from my doctors. They were aware of the fact that I was taking all kinds of supplements,
but they were not in favor of them, nor of the properties of Prostasol*1*.
Well, on September 13, 2004 I got a stroke, which I attribute to Prostasol!
The left side of my body was completely paralysed. It took me several months to
recuperate. I can walk with some limp, and can drive my car. My PSA rose to almost
20, but I hope I stabilized it by taking AVE*2* (a patented
fermented Wheat germ) and Dr. Johanna Budwig's formula (flaxseed oil with no-fat
cottage cheese)*3*. Oddly enough, I still consider taking
Prostasol along with Nattokinase*4* (I take daily 2 baby
Aspirins, since the doctors found clots in my blood after the stroke).
I
believe that Dr. Kurt Donsbach's behaviour, of not warning people that Prostasol
might cause blood clots, is criminal. People should have their blood checked periodically,
while on this product and take precaution measures (Nattokinase, Aspirin, Coumadin?)

NOTE
1: Prostatsol was widely advertised as being identical with PC-Spes, which was
banned because of estrogenic effects that gave rise to cardiovascular events such
as thrombosis as well as strokes
NOTE
2: A list of studies invoving AVE can be found Avemar
Published Research. Most deal with petri or mice experiments and, it seems
none deals with Prostate cancer.f
NOTE 3: Although this reference is a common one, Dr Budwig's diet is far more
complex than stated here - and it does not include cottage cheese, but quark,
which is not cottage cheese. There is considerable debate about the advisability
of large doses of flax seed oil which, in some laboratory tests, seems to stimulate
the growth of some prostate cancer cells.
NOTE
4. Here is a description of Nattokinase.
