William
Lund and Victoria live in Wisconsin, USA. He was 61 when he was diagnosed on 26
August 2009. His initial PSA was 11.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and he was
staged T1c. His choice of treatment was Da Vinci Surgery - RALP (Robotic Assisted
Laparoscopic Surgery). Here is his story..
After diagnosis, and given all
of the choices, there seemed only one route for me: robotic surgery. The tumor
was there, it was small, and contained within the prostate, so the best seemed
to be get rid of it and get the cancer behind me. Had surgery on 2 October 2009,
with sutures and catheter removed on 12 October 2009. On 13 October 2009 catheter
was replaced as ureter was swollen in the area of the suture line, and prevented
urination. Scheduled for removal of catheter #2 on 21 October 2009. The experts
say after an additional week with catheter things will be OK. I sincerely hope
so.
Surgery part was easy, staple sutures were a bigger bother than anything
else. Surgery at 7:30 am on 2nd October 2009 released to go home at 2:30 pm on
the 3rd.
Pretty impressed with surgeon, and with hi-tech miracle with
which I was treated. Pathology says I an cancer free. I am feeling pretty lucky
over all.
