Brian B lives in California, USA. He was 65 when he was diagnosed in August, 2014. His initial PSA was 8.80 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Non-Invasive (Active Surveillance) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2019 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in August 2014. My initial PSA was 8.8 ng/ml and a Gleason score of 3+4=7 stage T1c.

I have been a vegetarian most of my life. Switched to vegan in late 2013. It was a natural progression for me since being vegetarian. I did consume milk and cheese regularly prior to being vegan. Now, no animal products at all. I have always been very active physically. Currently, I road bicycle about 20 miles 5 days a week, and workout in the gym 5 days per week. So, I was basically very fit and lean. And, have been since I was a young man. Not much I could do to improve in that respect.

When I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I was surprised since I assumed I was too healthy to be a victim of this disease. After much thought, I decided I did NOT want to undergo any surgical treatments, other than the initial biopsy. I did some superficial research on the net, and felt the surgical treatments were far too invasive, and would greatly alter the life I currently enjoyed. I felt, I would rather live out my life according to the natural progression, as opposed to immediately and profoundly surgically altering my life. Also, bear in mind, I was symptom free at this point.

My Doctor recommended full removal of the prostate. I was told about the possible side effects of the surgery and the possible percentages of survival, etc. At this point, I decided to research everything about my condition. I am very computer literate, and spent the next 2 weeks pouring over everything I could. I decided I was adamant about not wanting the surgical approach. Nor did I want the radiological approach. The approved chemotherapy did not sound promising either.

My research on unapproved / herbal therapies seemed a better path for me ... at least initially, so I decided I would start in that direction. I decided on 3 protocols which sounded good to me, and which had some strong clinical and testimonial references to back them up. I am not going to post references on these protocols. They are out there and anyone interested can search them.

First, keep in mind, I am vegan. As such, I don't eat / consume any animal products that I am aware of. My diet is very good and I feel good with it. I workout a lot also. I want to preface this because I think it is important to start with a good strong foundation when you are facing a challenge such as Prostate Cancer. Especially eliminating refined sugar from the diet. Although I was always pretty health conscious, I was even more so now with this new diagnosis.

1. PH raising protocol. 2.) High dose ginger root extract protocol. 3.) Prostin protocol

1.) The PH raising protocol was a little uncomfortable. It is recommended to do this for 2 weeks. You try to keep your PH blood levels up around 8+. Presumably this works against cancer cells, which do not survive well in high PH environments. I measured my PH levels 3-4 times per day for 2 weeks. Mostly I measured my urine levels. The recipe I used called for Blackstrap Molasses mixed with Bob's Red Mill organic baking soda. 1 tsp - baking soda; 2 tsp - molasses; 8 oz water; 2 x per day. I did this for about 2 weeks. Details on this treatment are on the net, so you can search if interested. Some side effects from this ...mild headache occasionally. You don't want to raise you ph levels to 8+ for too long, as the body is not comfortable this much out of balance.

2.) I also started protocol #2 with high dose ginger root extract. I started taking 6 - 7 grams of ginger root extract per day (divided in 3 doses). Initially, I got the idea from this link https://sites.google.com/site/howtocureyourself/home/how-to-cure-cancer-with-ginger. I also did some more research on the use of ginger root for prostate, and was encouraged by what I read. There doesn't appear to be any side effects from my using this high dose of ginger root extract. I have been using it for about 2 1/2 months now. I get mine from the HerbStoreUSA with 5% gingerols. I buy it in bulk powder and bought a capsule device to make my own capsules filled with ginger. Since I'm taking such high doses, it adds up for savings. High dose ginger extract is too potent to mix in drinks. I couldn't take it that way. I think as long as you get ginger root extract with 5% gingerols, it probably doesn't matter who the supplier is. I will continue to take this protocol and see if I can lower my PSA even more than it is currently.

3.) About 2 weeks into the protocols #1 & #2, I started the Prostin Protocol. This is a blend of herbs manufactured by supplier in Mountain View, CA. Here is their link: http://titanbio.com/Prostil_OrderNow.html. This protocol is sort of expensive. I think it costs about $200 for 4 - 6 weeks worth. However, there is some clinical study on this. If you go the link, you can access some of their research published on this composition. I have been taking this for a little over 2 months now. I will also keep taking it to see if my PSA levels continue to drop.

Since I started these protocols, I had a PSA test done on my own after 2 months. My current readings are 3.2 ng/ml for PSA. Before starting the PSA was 8.8 ng/ml. I have not relayed this to my doctor as yet, because he decided since I wasn't going the surgical route, we would have another PSA test in 6 months from my original diagnosis. I am going to follow through with that in another 4 months. Hopefully, my PSA level will be as good or better at that time. It might be a little too early to get real excited by my recent PSA test results, but it certainly is encouraging.

Also, since I started all 3 protocols about the same time, realistically, I don't know which if any of them is responsible for my dramatic lowering of the PSA level. As such, I will have to continue taking #2 & #3 because I don't want to jeopardize the potential positive effects of either. But, since neither of these protocols has any side effects that I notice, continuance will not be a problem. Except for the cost on the Prostin. But, I figure it's a small price to pay for possibly avoiding invasive life altering surgery, radiology, chemotherapy. I have somewhat continued protocol #1 but scaled back. I take organic apple cider vinegar 2 tbls per day mixed with water. It's a mild treatment to gently push the body into a more favorable alkaline environment. My research has indicated that in general it is better to be a slight bit more toward the alkaline balance than toward the acidic balance.

I think it is very important for each individual to start their journey by doing research on their own. It is out there and very, very available. This will empower you and help you make the right decision for you as an individual. I will keep you posted on my journey with Prostate Cancer. So far, so good.

UPDATED

January 2015

1/13/15 - Received results on PSA blood test that was drawn on 1/7/15. 2.20 ng/ml. That is down from 3.25 ng/mL on 11/19/14. So, I will continue to stay on the 2 protocols (Herb combo from TitanBio + high dose ginger extract + 2 tbl of raw apple cider vinegar each day). I have an appointment with my urologist in 2 months, and will take another PSA test prior to the appointment. No noticeable sides effects, and still symptom free. Continuing to workout and do cardio as I have always done. And, I am vegan going on 3 years.

UPDATED

September 2015

PSA last week 9/15/15 - 9ng/ml. Up 1 point from original 1 year ago. So, it seems to be stabilized. Previous test was 7ng/ml. But, 1 point up or down is not significant. I am pleased that it is the same. Of course, I was hoping it would have disappeared, but this is not a bad second place. I am not longer using the treatment from Mountain View. I wanted to see if the ginger supplement was having a stronger effect, and it appears to be holding the line. (If indeed it is having any effect at all). I am still symptom free, and physically very active as before. Still vegan. Still taking high dose ginger 3-4 times per day. Additionally taking Quercetin & Curcumin & Omega 3 supplements. Will have another test done in 3 months.

UPDATED

March 2016

Last reading as of 3/23/16 is 11 ng/ml. So, it is up a bit. I have not redone the alkaline baking soda since the initial try. I will start the alkaline protocol again to see if that reduces the level. In addition, I am still taking ginger root. I am also taking curcumin, quercetin, modified citrus pectin, green tea/egcg, omega-3. I am still vegan for life. Hoping to bring the PSA level back down. Will update in 2 months.

UPDATED

October 2016

It has now been 2 years since my diagnosis. My last PSA was 2 weeks ago and it increased .5 The Doctor says this is not significant. It is basically stable at this point. So, I will continue with the same protocol. No progression is good news. Still no side effects or symptoms. I will update each 6 months.

UPDATED

March 2017

It is now about 2-1/2 yrs since diagnosis. Just had my 6th month visit with the urologist. My PSA level has gone up negligible .01. It seems to have stabilized at 11.5ng for the past year. I would like to see the number go down, but "not increasing" is fine as well. I am continuing on my regimen as it seems to be showing positive results. Still no side effects. I continue to be very active cycling and working out. I will update in 6 months. I just turned 68 in January. :)

UPDATED

September 2017

My PSA is at 11.8 ng/ml. So, it seems to still be stable. I will continue with my protocol. I have no side effects.

UPDATED

August 2018

My last checkup was on 3/22/18 and my PSA was 15.7 ng/ml. I am still using same supplements and am vegan. I have no symptoms. In addition, I have added graviola and bitter melon to my treatment protocol. My next test will be on 9/22/18. I will update then.
