John Cave and Jenny live in South Africa. He was 71 when he was diagnosed in August, 2016. His initial PSA was 460.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 8, and he was staged M1c. His initial treatment choice was Chemotherapy (Other) and his current treatment choice is ADT-Androgen Deprivation (Hormone) (Other). Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2019 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Diagnosis from high pain or weight bearing in my right hip, doc had been treating as bursitis, an anaesthetist friend finally said it was daft & sent me to get an X-ray, where to diagnosis was immediate. Then did PSA, - 460, urologist then biopsy & ream out -as could hardly pee & had been getting stuff to enable peeing for the previous 2 months, things with my GP had seriously gone off the rails, especially as I asked for a prostate check last year.

Then controlled release hormone injection. Urologist said just wait "should come right". My daughter was very unhappy with my GP, and inadequate investigation by the urologist, sent me to a GP who had just been involved with 2 cancer riddled relatives, extending their "3 months" to 3 years.

New GP sent me to Oncologist, as she had good relationship with one of best oncologists, it was very lucky to go through her as she got me into the oncologist the next day.

He wanted more extensive X-rays and an isotope bone scan, then a CT scan.

Oncologist said the cancer had spread to hips, spine & ribs, but no soft tissue, and the Gleason value was 8. He said that my pain was not at all surprising as over 30% of the hip joint was damaged.

He put me on a daily radiation treatment for 10 days. That is when the 2nd PSA reading was done.

After the radiation I developed a cycling 3-4 day constipation followed by ultra-loose (& urgent) problem with high stomach pain, so went for colonoscopy (demanded by another anaesthetist friend especially as father died of colon cancer).. Luckily I was all clear except for an area of the colon that was damaged - they say presumably by the radiation treatment.

I have also been trying to limit and attack the cancer with the following:

1. Cannabis oil started low then switched to suppository treatment, have been at 1-1.3g per day (in divided doses) of concentrate in a suppository. Self-made mix with 45% Cocoa butter into capsules.

2. Diet, am trying to keep a ketogenic diet, zip normal carbs, high fat, supplemented by MCT & olive oils & butter. It's a pain to not be able to eat out, as all meals are heavy in carbs and not fat.

3. Am making my own disgusting vitamin mix- 3g vitamin C, 400mg Vit E, 500mg Bioflavonoids, 1mg B12, 150mg vit B5, 100mg Zinc. Then taking vit/inorg, natural pills: Ca/Mg, ginseng, Gingko biloba, vit D, Spirulina. But to be frank I only seem to get round to them all every 2nd day!

I am due to get another PSA test on the 28th Nov, and get the second slow release hormone injection on the 30th Nov.

I'm contemplating packing suppositories for other folks, as I have ready access to the raw materials, which I can buy at 50% of the normal low price (R200/g).

I am also looking for folks to share MCT oil with as the best price for this here is ~R270/kg while I can get it in bulk at ~R130/kg for 20kg, which is clearly too much for me, so looking to find 3 others to share with.

Just wanting to chat to folks who have been in "this space"

UPDATED

January 2018

Who knows what works most, but I'm a "belt & braces type", hormone injection treatment, tablet supplement, lchf diet, 4 months of 1g a day cannabis suppositories, radiation to hip- the cancer only detected after 33% of right hip socket destroyed. Adding every day walking. Cancer had spread to all bones in legs, spine and ribs. Mid last year overdid walking one day (19km on Appears) started hip hurting so got another X-ray- the finding was that the socket had Re-grown. Unknown whether therapy, prayer, radiation, cannabis, diet or all helped the fixing, just know the oncologist had not expected that result.
