Canadiansurgeon H lives in Alberta, Canada. He was 57 when he was diagnosed in September, 2016. His initial PSA was 4.80 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9, and he was staged T2a. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

I am a 57 year old surgeon who had been following a rising PSA over a few years. When my level reached 4.8, I obtained an MRI scan which showed 0.7 mm mass in my left prostate. Rectal normal. Rest seemed clear. A decision was made to see Dr. Leonard Marks at UCLA for a targeted biopsy of the mass only. 2 positive for G7 and unfortunately 1 for a G9. 3 biopsies total. After mulling through all my options I decided to go with Dr. Christopher King at UCLA for targeted SBRT treatment. At the time of treatment PSA was 5.8 and 5 high dose treatments to the whole prostate, seminal vesicles and neuro bundle as well as to pelvic nodes. No nodes or mets found on pre-treatment scans. PSA post radiation 0. To quote a friend of mine "you own this problem" and each person must make the best choice for him. No correct answers that I could find. Currently on 9 months of hormones and feel tired at the end of the day. No major problems with the targeted SBRT. Best wishes to all.

UPDATED

September 2017

I have finished my ADT 3 months ago. Night sweats have gone down but still have them. Energy is better but joints are still sore which I assume was due to the ADT. Overall all symptoms less. Total ADT was 9 months. The only issue is that when I need to have a bowel movement I really need to go.

Received my PSA and again undetectable. I thank the Lord for this.

I will update in 6 months and take care.

Dear cancer survivors

I am updating my results for the last six months. My PSA is undetectable and testosterone is normal. Erections are difficult without Viagra. Overall still very pleased with my treatment and would recommend it to anyone. SBRT under Dr. King' s guidance. Also found out I do carry a genetic mutation for cancer.

All the best!

Just an update and 2 year anniversary after my SBRT treatment. No major issues to report and am very thankful.

I will be 3 years post SBRT treatment at UCLA for my cancer. The treatment side effects are minimal. Erection still good with Viagra. The PSA has not moved in the last several months and my radiation oncologists stated this what he expected . That is a small rise as normal remaining prostate starts to recover . I am still very happy with my treatment and will keep posting. Good luck and God Bless.
