Glenn N lives in Texas, USA. He was 59 when he was diagnosed in December, 2016. His initial PSA was 2.70 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged Unknown. His initial treatment choice was Undecided and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2018 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

PSA testing is offered annually at my place of employment. From 2010 through 2016 my PSA steadily increased from 1.1 to 2.7. The company physician annually suggested that I see a Urologist, which I did, and my annual DRE was always negative. Finally, in 2016 the Urologist suggested that I have a biopsy in order to definitively rule out prostate cancer. The biopsy came back positive with a Gleason score of 6 (3+3) on two of the twelve core samples. Due to my age (59) and fitness level (excellent) he told me that I was an excellent candidate for active surveillance, but that because I was so (relatively) young there was a good chance that I would not outlive the cancer if I didn't get treatment in the future. I transferred to MD Anderson for my active surveillance. At my annual biopsy this past December (2017) over half of the cores came back with positive indications for cancer, with two of them with a Gleason score of 7 (4+3). Unfortunately I do not have the normal, slow growing prostate cancer and surveillance is over. The main options that I have considered with MD Anderson are radical laparoscopic robotic prostatectomy and radiation therapy (proton beam). There are no good options, and only in hind site will I know if I made the right choice. I am leaning towards surgery, although I watched a video of the procedure and it is not pleasant. I have to choose soon.
