THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2018 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I don't see much about men my age or older. [I suggested to Richard that if he checked the 'Age at Diagnosis' Index he might find some.] My Primary doctor feels I'm a young 74 (75 in Feb) and I should have a Prostatectomy. I see my Urologist in two days to make a choice. I am concerned about the side affects, mainly incontinence and bowel problems. The Proton Beam looks good to me.

Later: When I had my Biopsy about two weeks ago I was not able to urinate and sent home with a catheter. I took Flomax for two weeks and removed the catheter the night before I went back to the doctor still could not urinate. I have another catheter and will keep it until surgery is scheduled.

The only way I can have Radiation Therapy would be the a TURP (Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate) first. Doctor wants to wait four weeks before surgery, still time to change my mind.

I had to have a new catheter this week and found out that I will be having LR Surgery (Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy). I am still waiting on a date. However since finding this out I have read most of the stories on LR Surgery and have exchanged e-mails with Chuck Blakley. I feel good about this now and can't wait to get it over with.

I had my surgery on January 21, 2009. The surgery took four hours and I was released the next day at noon. The lab report shows he didn't get it all, so I will start Radiation in three months.

I had very little pain and as of today I'm 90% continent. PSA was 24.1 before surgery and 9.5 at two weeks post surgery.

On May 9, 2010 PSA was 10.3, had bone and full body scans on May 20, 2010 showing spread to hips-spine and neck. PSA reading 10.6.

On June 1, 2010 started Hormone Therapy (Firmagon). On June 22, 2010 PSA reading 2.1, second Hormone injection June 29, 2010. I have also been on the Budwig Diet [Dr Budwig's diet is far more complex than stated on most websites - and it does not include cottage cheese, but quark, which is not cottage cheese. There is considerable debate about the advisability of large doses of flax seed oil which, in some laboratory tests, seems to stimulate the growth of some prostate cancer cells.] and Artemisinin capsules four a day.

I have steady pain in my neck and will start Radiation July 1, 2010.

July 1 2010 started fourteen weeks of Radiation on my neck. My throat got so sore that I could not swallow and I almost quit the last three.

I'm still on the Hormone Therapy and my PSA has been at 0.1 for three months. My doctor said two more injections and then he will do another bone scan. I lost 40 lbs by the time I was done with Radiation but have gain back 10 lbs.

Of course still have ED and no Libido.

I have been on Firmagon for eight months and my PSA has been 0.01 for four months.

I had a new bone scan on February 1, 2011 with good results. The doctor gave me three months off with no treatments.

I have gained back half of the weight I lost and feel good. I stopped the Flax seed and Cottage Cheese two months ago. Still no red meat and very little dairy products.

I have been off Firmagon since Janury 2011 and my PSA is holding at 0.01.My doctor said he don't want to see me again until November 2011.

I still have ED but at 76 it's not a high priority.

Two years post surgery and one year post HT. PSA has been 0.01 for one year.

ED still a problem.

I am feeling great and the Dr. said go enjoy life while you can. So after trying all the oral meds and Trimix injections with no satisfactory results I will be getting a Titan Implant on 9/10/12. What better way to enjoy life?

It will be two years in January since the last treatment, PSA is still 0.1 and I don't see the Doctor again for six months. I am feeling great and eat anything I want now however I still eat very little Red meat or sugar. I can drink beer in moderation. The implant works great.

I just celebrated my 80th birthday which I never expected to see and I feel great. I don't worry about the cancer anymore and take each day as a blessing. My PC Doctor checks my PSA every three months along with my other blood test. The Oncologist wants to see me once a year unless the PSA changes. Never give up my friends.
