Kenneth
Greene and Susan live in Dix Hills, New York, US. He was 58 when he was diagnosed
in August 2007. His initial PSA was 3.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and although
he does not state his staging, it seems he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment
was Robotic Laparoscopy. Here is his story.
THERE
WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE
REMINDER
IN 2010
SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.
My
wife is a laboratory technologist and she had drawn my blood and we found out
my PSA had gone from a 2.5 to 3.5. I then went to see my doctor and the PSA results
were the same. I then made an appointment with my doctor to have a biopsy done
and the results came back positive for prostate cancer.
This was August
of 2007 and proceeded to make an appointment for the Robotic Laparoscopy (Da Vinci
Procedure). I had the surgery in November of 2007 and everything went very well.
I recuperated for about four weeks and took it slow through December and January
2008. During this time I was feeling better and stronger everyday. The type of
surgery is a quick recovery and not very painful.
The worst that bothered
me was the catheter which I went home with and hoped I would only have it for
one week it took two weeks until the catheter was removed. Like every man I worried
about incontinence. At the beginning right after surgery it is hard to control
and now over a year later the only time I might leak is during exercising or in
the evenings when I am tired. I was also worried that I might not be able to experience
the same sexual feelings as before. In time that has come back and there are also
medications that can help you with this.
My doctor had told me at the time
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer "that he was not going to treat me; he was
going to cure me" and he did. Prostate cancer if caught early can be cured and
by all of us staying on top of it we can defeat it.
